Tragedy struck Cartier’s family when he was just seven years old. He had to grow up fast when his father was killed. His mother found it difficult to cope and it took a while for her to get back on her feet. When she did, she was worried for her son’s future and wanted better for him. Tri-County stepped in to make it possible for Cartier 

to attend DePaul Catholic High School.
